Early Modern Combat
The Early Modern Track focuses on the latter era of historical fencing when the firearm was the primary weapon on the battlefield and close quarters weapons such as swords were becoming less common.
Early Modern Track begins with the Smallsword which is heavily featured in manuals from this era. Following this students learn to use the Highland Targe and study Europe's last warrior culture to see the differences in the two contemporary fighting styles. Next students study the combative systems of the World War era learning to use the Fairbairn Sykes fighting knife. This is followed by a study of pugilism and the art of boxing in Mendoza's style. Finally students learn the quarterstaff and British bayonet fencing.
